Here's some updated information on an item we had last week about a woman found dead inside the J.J. Cafe on Western Avenue near Rosecrans Avenue in Gardena.

  • Her name was Connie Chang, 64, of Los Angeles, and she was the owner and operator of the bar.
  • An autopsy found she was shot several times. A gunshot wound to the chest was listed as the cause of death.
  • Police are searching for her car which was missing from the parking lot. It is a gray 2002 Toyota 4Runner with the license plate number 4WJW227.
  • A neighbor told me she had been missing several days and had had a fight with a man.
Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call Gardena police Detective Todd Fox at 310-217-9625 or Detective Pamela Robinson at 310-217-9653

He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
