History of Redondo Beach last week Part II
Here's some more stuff from Redondo Beach, as written by Capt. Jeff Hink:
- On August 7, 2008 at about 12:00 p.m. a female withdrew $850.00 from the Washington Mutual Bank in the 1600 block of South Pacific Coast Highway. The female exited the bank, drove about 50 yards to another business and went inside. Within ten minutes, an unknown suspect broke the back window of her vehicle and removed her purse which was hidden in the back compartment.
Further inspection of her vehicle revealed that her right rear tire was slashed with a knife. The suspect possibly slashed her tire at the bank in the hope that she would drive from the bank and then have to pull over her disabled car, at which time he would rob her. An employee of the bank reported seeing a suspicious individual inside the bank at the same time the victim was conducting her transaction. The suspicious person was described as a male Hispanic adult, 25 years old, 5-07, medium build.
- On August 7, 2008 at 8:05 p.m. an officer conducted surveillance in the 2700 block of Artesia Blvd. A stucco wall dividing the condominium complex and the railroad tracks at this location was vandalized the night before by unknown suspects. A citizen had confronted the subjects the night before, and they ran south on the railroad tracks.
The officer observed two suspects matching the description of the suspects from the previous night. The suspects resumed painting the same graffiti that they had started the night before. As officers attempted to detain the suspects, they both ran south on the railroad tracks.
One of the subjects was apprehended behind the Expo store. The second suspect evaded capture. A digital media card was found in the pocket of the suspect that was arrested. Images on the card depicted himself, the second outstanding suspect and others committing graffiti.
- On August 8, 2008 at about 4:00 p.m. the Police Department received a report of store employees in the 2500 block of Marine Ave. who were fraudulently creating store credit in the amount of $21,413.00. Fraudulent credit in the amount of $12,296.00 had already been obtained by the same employees and redeemed for store merchandise. Officers contacted the employees/suspects inside the store and ultimately arrested them for felony grand theft.
- On August 8, 2008 at about 11:00 p.m. an officer was on patrol in the 2300 block of West 190th Street when he observed a subject trying to hide from him under a parked vehicle. The officer contacted the subject and learned the subject had two outstanding arrest warrants totalling $250,000.00 and a "No Bail" arrest warrant for a parole violation. The subject was arrested. During the booking search, drug paraphernalia was located on the suspect.
- On August 9, 2008, a 28 year-old woman was found by the owner of the property burglarizing a garage in the 2800 Block of Barkley Ln. The female suspect, a methamphetamine user from Lawndale, was also wanted on two warrants for possession of narcotics and a stolen vehicle. At the time of her arrest she was found with keys to a vehicle. An investigation and search of the area revealed a stolen Ford SUV parked down the street that was related to the suspect.
- On August 9, 2008 at about 6:15 p.m. four Samoan females engaged in a physical fight with another group of Samoan females from an opposing Church group at the Esplanade and Avenue C. Upon the arrival of RBPD units one of the groups was gone and the other was still on scene.
The remaining group of women immediately became confrontational and resistive with police. The females used threats and physical force against the responding officers. Numerous male family members ran from the beach up to the Esplanade to assist their female relatives. Four females were taken into custody for resisting/delaying arrest and battery on a police officer. No officers or suspects were hurt during this incident.
