UPDATE: Hawthorne crime scene photo and new info on body
Police and firefighters responded to the truck at 118th Place and Felton Avenue about 1 p.m. when neighbors detected an odor. A male victim was in the back seat. His body was decomposing.
A witness said he's in shorts and a shirt.
Police believe the truck was parked there for a day. The name of the victim wasn't immediately known. Sheriff's Department homicide detectives were on their way to the scene to assist Hawthorne police with the investigation.
I ran the license plate and came up with the name of the truck's registered owner, but can't say whether that man was the victim inside the truck.
We'll have more tomorrow. The investigation and crime scene evidence collection should take hours, unless the coroner allows police to tow the vehicle away for forensic investigation elsewhere.
