I get calls and emails, not always so nice (R rated)
Earlier, a woman called and complained I hadn't covered the big search in San Pedro for the robber the other day. She complained a helicopter was overhead and police were everywhere.
I explained I wrote updates all afternoon on the blog and had a story with two photos in the paper the next day on Page 3. She told me she doesn't use the Internet and didn't see the story. "Nobody saw it," she said.
Anyway, shortly after that I received a couple of emails I thought I'd share. I appreciate the nice ones I get but I get plenty of negative ones like these too. So here we go. (I didn't change anything.) I don't know what the problem is today:

Instead of berating you for not getting the story straight people should be grateful that someone is at least acknowledging the fact that there is crap going on all of the time and we would never find out if not for you and your colleagues. I can remember hearing helicopters, seeing police tape, watching ambulances go by and just wondering "What the hell is going on?" and never finding out. If it isn't serious enough to make it on the ten o' clock news then most of us are assed out. I just recently stumbled upon this part of the daily breeze website and I am truly thankful for the wonderful job you do. Smile! The people berating you can't even spell.
Thanks. I can take it....
And thanks for reading the blog. Tell your friends. The number of readers is rising every week.
Anyone who writes that professionally deserves to be published.
(Where was Mike when I was failing high school English?)
*snicker*
Hey Larry,
We read you over at RL too...Keep up the good work! By the way, if there's one thing I was hoping you could follow up, it's the story of a drunk driver in Hermosa Beach who drove into a home, injuring some kids.
You wrote about his poor driving record. Whatever happened to him? Did he get punished?
I just happened to stumble upon this blog when looking for info on the Deede Keller murder case and it's great, I'm going to have to keep coming back. How come, though, your blog isn't listed with the other blogs in the Daily News blog main page? It makes it harder to find. Even the Mean Streets blog with no postings for September, is listed. Is the Crime & Courts blog the ugly stepchild?
Thanks for reading the blog and thanks for saying you'll come back. I take it you are a Daily News reader. We became sister papers awhile back when our paper was purchased by MediaNews.
The San Fernando Valley blog for crime news is Mean Streets. That runs out of the Daily News in Woodland Hills.
The Crimes and Courts blog is run out of the Daily Breeze and includes South Bay crime news with a few things thrown in from elsewhere here and there. Denise and I are employees of the Daily Breeze.
Some of the blogs are joint among all the MediaNews papers, such as soccer and the USC and UCLA sports blogs, but the crime blogs are written for the specific newspapers. I hope that explains it.
So we aren't listed on the Daily News blog list, but we are on the Daily Breeze's. I haven't checked, but I assume it's the same here with them.
Keep coming back! I appreciate the compliments.
He's still awaiting sentencing. Do a search of the name Ruben Vargas here on the blog and you'll see what I mean! Thanks!
