Artists don't go around defacing public property or other people's property. To paraphrase a quote going around, calling a tagger an "artist" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist." If they want to spray paint their own dwelling, fine, but they shouldn't go around thinking that everyone appreciates or wants their "art."

the funny thing is no one ever gets charged for illegally erecting billboards, or covering legally sanctioned store front murals, but when we hit a spot that people are totally oblivious to such as a back of a billboard you would of never looked at unless the art or graffiti was their, we get slapped with a felony. The worst part is you do $400 of damage, you have to do cal trans or services, still pay restitution, and get slapped with a felony. Why not the same rule for idiots driving and cause a bad accident on the freeways or such where they cause much more than $400 of damage, but they get to walk away no charge and minor fines.

i agree that graffitti should not be on private homes and property and it should not be on small buisnesses either but why cant it be on plain walls that have nothing to offer. by doing graffitti it makes the walls serve two purposes because not it conveys art or a message.
