Friday's checkpoint and Plain White T's 'Friends don't let friends dial drunk'
Police will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint from 8 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the eastbound lanes of Redondo Beach Boulevard at La Salle Avenue in Gardena.

Why do the police announce when they are going to conduct a checkpoint? If people know about it, aren't they more likely to avoid it if they have been drinking? This seems like it defeats the purpose of catching drunk drivers.
