I was gone last week, so it's time to catch up. Here's a police recap of stuff that went on in Redondo Beach from the end of last month. Our story on the Obama effigy reported here went national.

First here's an alarming entry, although we haven't been told where this happened.......

On 10-24-08 at approximately 2:30 p.m. a 10 year old student was walking home from school. She observed a male subject in a vehicle parked in the red zone near her school. Inside of the vehicle she observed that the occupant was looking at her and smiling. As she passed the vehicle she observered that he was exposing himself and masturbating. The student reported the incident at school on 10-28-08. The case is under investigation.

On 10-29-08 at approximately 4:30 p.m. a person called the Police Department to report a home with an effigy of Presidential Candidate Barack Obama hanging off the balcony. A patrol officer responded and saw the house in question was decorated for Halloween. The house had the figure hanging off the balcony by a necktie with a meat cleaver hanging out of the neck in addition to a sign stating "NoBama". The Investigations Division contacted the resident along with a member of the Secret Service and the John McCain Presidential Campaign. Police presence was maintained througout the evening. Late in the evening the resident removed the head of the figure but left the sign in place. The incident resulted in a front page news article in the Tursday, October 30th edition of the Daily Breeze. The Police Department received several media inquiries on Thursday about the display as well as several phone calls from concerned citizens.

On 10-29-08 at approximately 5:00 p.m. A female suspect was observed stealing merchandise at Macy's department store at the Galleria mall. As the suspect left the store, with Loss Prevention agents chasing after her, she got into her car and tried to get out of the parking lot. A patrol officer gave chase and was finally able to stop her at 182nd St and Felton Ln. The female was arrested without further incident for theft and evading arrest.
10-31-08 (Friday)

On 10-31-08 at approximately 1:08 p.m. a patrol officer responded to the pumpkin patch located at 411 S. Pacific Coast Highway regarding a report about counterfeit money.  Upon contacting the victim, the officer asked for the counterfeit bills.  The victim took a wad of money out of his pocket and proceeded to look for the counterfeit bills.  As he did so, the officer observed a small zip lock baggy containing a white powder substance.  The handling officer was eventually able to retrieve the baggy from the "victim".  The victim was then arrested for possession of controlled substance and the original report was also taken.

On 10-31-08 at approximately 10:45 p.m. sveral people arrive at a residence in the 2100 Blk. of Perry Ave. when shortly thereafter some sort of disagreement ensues. A male suspect grabs the victim in a headlock, and places a knife to the victim's throat.  According to witnesses, the suspect tilts the victims head to the side and slices the victim's throat with the knife, while making a comment about death.  Upon officers arrival, they locate the victim who has a severe laceration to his throat.  Officers obtain a suspect description and location, respond and quickly take the suspect into custody after he admitted to the altercation and was positively identified.  The victim was transported to an area hospital.

On 11-01-08 at approximately 12:06 a.m. officers responded to the 1600 block of PCH regarding a suicide.  The owner of the business was depressed over business matters and took his life by hanging himself.

On 11-01-08 at approximately 5:29 a.m. officers responded to a call of a fight at Denny's restaurant on Aviation Blvd.  Upon the officers arrival they detained a suspect in an assault investigation.  While conducting the investigation the suspect's girlfriend, who was intoxicated, started to interfere with their investigation.  The female was subsequently taken into custody for public intoxication by a patrol Sergeant.  The female became combative and kicked an officer as he was placing her in the police unit.  The female had to be further restrained to safely transport her to the station for booking.

On 11-01-08 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Torrance Police Department advised RBPD of a possible gang fight which happened at Entradero Park in the City of Torrance.  A description of an involved vehicle was provided and information that the driver of the listed vehicle possibly threw a handgun from the vehicle.  The handgun was recovered by a witness.  Two RBPD officers located a possible vehicle and stopped it at Ripley and Lilienthal.  The driver was identified as being involved in the fight.  A .25 caliber bullet was located in the rear passenger area of the vehicle.  The driver was arrested by Torrance PD.
