I'm about 24 hours late on this, but wanted to note the appointment of a boat-load of new judges to the Los Angeles Superior Court, including San Pedro resident and former L.A. City Attorney Jim Hahn. Staff Writer Donna Littlejohn had a chat with him about his new job that you can read here.

I feel California made a big mistake in electing Arnold. What are the chances of making two states Northern California and a Southern California. Also what are the chances of giving our electoral votes following what percentage is voted, rather than winner takes all? Hope some of this could make interesting press. At least it could stir the pot.

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
