Redondo Beach attempted kidnapping - 2 months ago??

A reader e-mailed me this morning with a question about the timing of the release of information and a composite sketch of a Jan. 3 attempted kidnapping in Redondo Beach:

"Was this story in the Dailybreeze in Jan and I just missed it or is this the first time police are releasing details because they need the public's help? I must say I don't remember it but it concerns me considering I am a few blocks from where it took place.... I was just wondering why they waited so long to alert thet public?"

This story was never in the Daily Breeze, since we were never told about it by law enforcement. That being said, I do find it odd since Redondo Beach is one of the South Bay police departments that is the best at sharing information and alerts with us so we can pass them on to the community. Not sure why this one took more than two months to come to light ... but we'll be sure to ask.

I thought the reason it took so long was the police had a difficult time trying to find a sketch artist or had to wait for one. Cori Desmond might have been alive today (assuming culprits were the same men).

This story is extremely strange? I live but a few 100 feet from this location and to have to find out about now IN MARCH??? This is unprofessional reporting from both the Daily Breeze and the Redondo Police Department, The actual story that was printed in the Daily Breeze stated something to the efffect about the reason as to why it took so long for the police to notify the public is that there wasnt a Sketch Artist available and usually in (Southern California) when there is a attempted Kidnapping/Abduction it will make the evevning news, in this particular instance there was no reporting of it for over 2 month and the only reason as to why I feel this may be is that the police did not believe the actual event that may have happened on Jan. 3, 2009.
Some facts that are missing like how how old was this women (or young girl)? Also, I think the actual printed newspaper story stated it happened around 6:30PM and the online story above stated that it happened in the afternoon? Which is correct? I think the police are only saying something now due to the recent abduction and murder of Cori Desmond in mid February which is about a 3/4 mile from this location of Grant & Green

The Police should have warned people in this area about the Jan 3, 2009 incident because there is a school on the corner of Grant & Green and many many children are in the area that walk by this intersection several time a day. This is either bad police work or the Jan 3, incident never took place. WE NEED MORE INFORMATION...

A concernend neighbor.

I find it amazing that the political correctness of the media and law enforcement continually put the public's safety at risk and we passively accept it. Time after time, I hear of crimes stating the criminal's height (which has to be the biggest GUESS of all his descriptive characteristics!) yet they seldom state the race! In the case of this attempted kidnapping, they knew a Hispanic man was involved! So say it! Buy no, they wait for a photo and then they are off the hook from saying the "H" Word! They need to stop worrying about protecting a race of people and start worrying about serving THE People!

I actually heard about this event (vaguely) through a friend who is in the department just days after the attempted kidnapping. This friend told me about the event only days after it happened because I live a few houses from where the attempted kidnapping occurred. I have two young children and run by myself regularly in the neighborhood. I was appreciative of the warning. However, when I asked a RB Police Officer (who happened to be parked just down the street from my house a few days later) about the incident and voiced my concern he completely brushed me off. I was told that the event was a "non-event" and that the girl was drunk and may have even known the attacker. And now they are possibly linking the same incident to a murder? Hardly a "non-event". To be honest, i haven't run in the neighborhood by myself in almost 3 weeks and I am scared. If the department is hiding information they are just DEAD wrong!! Keep us informed or some other lives may be lost.

I think the police didn't believe the Jan 3rd victim, until they had a murder. I think then they realized they may want to release this information to the general public. They couldn't find a sketch artist? Come on, that is an excuse!

This is why we started abductionalerts.com. We all should know when something like this happens and we can't wait for police to alert us. Law enforcement and private persons can use our site to file reports and view reports. It is a free public service provided by the Missing Person Center. It's new, so help us help everyone and file reports when you here of something related to missing people and children and sexual assault or attempts. http://www.abductionalerts.com
