Former Gardena High School football coach Brandon Pettway was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for one count of marijuana possession for sale or transport.

Pettway, 26, had previously pleaded no contest to the count to Torrance Superior Court Judge Laura Ellison after he failed to reach a deal with prosecutors.

After the brief sentencing hearing, a line of Pettway's supporters hugged him good-bye and wished him well before he was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Pettway was arrested last April following an investigation into drug sales activity on 134th Place in Gardena, police previously said.

A search of Pettway's home in the 2100 block of 134th Place yielded drugs and a firearm.
