*In case you missed it: Redondo Beach foster children town hall

As part of covering the courts for the Daily Breeze, I regularly monitor the appellate court opinions that are posted online. Many, many of them begin with a tale about a baby born with drugs in its system - at least a couple a week. It always strikes me as so sad and you have to wonder what kind of life awaits these newborns.

I learned last week that even the tiniest of people have attorneys fighting for them at the Children's Law Center of Los Angeles. I did a story in Monday's Daily Breeze and about a Town Hall meeting they're holding Tuesday night at the Redondo Beach Main Library. Information about the event is at the bottom of the story. *UPDATE: The time for the event is wrong in the story. It begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 8:45 p.m.

The story ledes with the court case for A.M. You can read her whole story in the appellate opinion here.

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
