I received word today that Jon Wilhite remains in serious condition at University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange.

Wilhite, 24 of Manhattan Beach survived the crash last week that killed Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart; Courtney Stewart, 20, of Diamond Bar; and Henry Pearson, 25, of Manhattan Beach.

(Note: The headline on this item earlier used the word "critical." That was my bad. The article was correct to show he is improving, which is good to hear.)

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
