Narbonne High football star shot to death in Compton
COMPTON (CNS) - Friends of an All-City football player from Narbonne
High School, gunned down in a fried chicken restaurant, plan a vigil tonight at
the shooting scene, as his family makes burial plans.
Dannie Farber Jr. was shot to death by an unknown assailant as he ate
dinner in a Compton fast food eatery Sunday night.
The youth was a graduating senior from the school who played wide
receiver on the Los Angeles city co-champion Narbonne High School football
team. His performance had earned him a college scholarship, his family said as
they mourned outside police tape at the Louisiana Fried Chicken outlet in
Compton.
``He was a good son, a good athlete, a good kid,'' said his mother,
Danielle Farber. ``I told him to keep up the good work, and that I was so proud
of him.''
Dannie Farber Jr. was named after his father, Daniel Farber, the mother
said. The youth was scheduled to graduate from Narbonne June 19, and had
already started spring football practice with the squad at nearby Harbor
College.
Narbonne tied its arch-rival, San Pedro, for the city championship this
school year.
``It's a tragic loss," Gauchos assistant coach Byron Moore Sr., who has
known Farber since coaching him in youth football, told the Los Angeles Times.
``He was always full of energy. I'm going to miss him dearly.''
Farber was an All-City receiver, said his high school coach. ``He was
sitting there eating dinner with some girl," coach Manuel Douglas told the Los
Angeles Times. ``They walked in and shot him four times."
Douglas told The Times Farber had made ``a lot of big plays.'' He caught
a four-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter in a city semifinal playoff
game that rallied the Gauchos to a 25-24 victory over Crenshaw High School and
enabled the team to reach the championship game against San Pedro High at the
Coliseum.
``He was a real good kid," assistant coach Byron Moore Sr., who also had
known Farber since coaching him in youth football, told The Times. "He wasn't
involved in any gang. It's a tragic loss. He was always full of energy."
The killing, at 1950 W. Rosecrans Ave., occurred as the youth ate dinner
at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's Lt. Dave Dolson said.
A lone gunman, whose description was not released, ran from the eatery.
Deputies said they did not know if the killing was recorded on surveillance
video.
Sheriff's deputies asked anyone with more information to call detectives
Toni Martinez or Eddie Brown at (323) 890-5500.

ANONYMOUS...YOUR A BIG IDIOT....
man fck u anonymous thts was ma babe and i loved him 2 death so fck wat u gotta say r.i.p dannie
This is why I hate the Daily Breeze, because it allows the most ignorant people to post anything. Why would it matter if he was in Compton or was not in Compton, this could of probably happened anywhere. Don't we take a weighted risk every time we walk out of our house knowing there is that probability something could harm us? The point is comments that are made to harm and hurt family members of this young man, are just in poor taste. Let the family mourn in peace this is a tragic loss of an innocent young man's life cut short.
He probably wasn't innocent. I don't care "how nice of a kid he was"
Tragic is all I can say and I pray for him and his family. Does not matter what city your in, it is a great loss for everyone and more so for young kids who learn through examples of a student athlete who commits himself to stay on a right path as he did. My son had the honor to meet him at a few football camps the last few years and play against him in youth football.
This is another senseless gang killing. It is to bad, because this person was not in a gang. Rest in peace.

Wow, reading this article and these comments makes me really appreciate the fact that I do not live in CA anymore. The inmates have taken over and the state is an absolute mess.
I wish all "gangsters" and those who try and write like them would kill each other off ASAP!!
I will miss DANNIE not being here and I know that he is in a better place. I mostly mourn for you comment people, it’s easy to talk what you don't know, DANNIE is a beautiful young boy, that had plenty to offer the WORLD with lots of family members that already know this, he had guidance and love, which most children don’t have now days. And If you’ all think being in Compton makes you a target; them grow up and think again. “It’s not the city” it’s LIFE! Compton is full of great kids, you just hear about the bad ones.
DANNIE has a beautiful family, great people, people that you wish was your family, “in a whole lifetime” you most likely won’t have or see a better “MOTHER” than DANNIE’S. This is what makes me mourn for your BAD comments, if you had been raised by this family, your little brains would not have ever thought of such sorry thing to say about anyone. GO AND SPEND SOME TIME WITH SOMEONE WHO LOVES YOU!! It might help
thats fucc'd up idk him! But my folks do they are kids....WTF ITS NOT A GAME. IMA MOMMA WITH TWO BOYS AND IT HURT MY HEART THAT SHIT LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO KIDS atleast we'll aleast the kids doing the right thing. GOD BLESS THE FAMILY. AND MAY THE LORD MAKE THEM YUNG STREET LOSERS!!!!! PAY FOR THE B/S THEY STARTED. YOU NIGGAS NEED TO GROW UP LOOK FOR THOSE WHO LOOKING FOR IT MAN UP NOT FOR THOSE TRYING TO MAKE IT HOME TO THEIR FAMILY.
