Arun Bhumitra, president of Arjay Plaza at Hawthorne and Lomita boulevards in Torrance, wrote this letter to thank Torrance police for catching a suspect in the glass shootings:

I would like to express my utmost gratitude and appreciation to Mayor Frank Scotto and Police Chief Neu for spear-heading a task force to finally arrest Gary Matthew Finmark.

This individual had been terrorizing major streets such as Hawthorne, Sepulveda and Pacific Coast Highway for the past several months by shooting and breaking glass windows. He has cost business owners thousands of dollars in damages, including myself.

It is this kind of leadership and action from our law enforcement that helps our community flourish and keeps our City of Torrance a great place to live, work and play.

Thanks much,

Arun Bhumitra,
President, Arjay Plaza

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
