Shane Mahoney1.JPGProbably not a good day to be Shane Mahoney. That's him over there.

The Manhattan Beach man was arrested last night after a child saw him urinate on a police car in a Hermosa Beach parking lot, police said.

Mahoney, 22, was taken to jail about 8:45 p.m. after two officers saw him walking away from their black-and-white car dampened with urine, Redondo Beach police Sgt. Phil Keenan said.

"There's two things you don't want to do in this world -- pee on a rattlesnake and pee on a police car," Keenan said.
The Redondo Beach officers were eating dinner at Poulet de Jour at 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway when a child walked up to them and said a man was peeing on their police car.

The officers walked outside and saw him behind their car.

Mahoney showed signs of extreme intoxication and resisted officer's attempts to stop him from walking away. He apologized, saying he would have the car washed, but clenched his fists like he wanted to fight.

The officers detained him.

His girlfriend, who had been sitting in a car nearby, told the officers that Mahoney said he was going to urinate on a police car when she drove into the lot, Keenan said.

Mahoney, she told them, was depressed and had been drinking vodka shots.

Police said Mahoney had a friend who was arrested for public drunkeness in Hermosa Beach a few days earlier, Keenan said.

Mahoney was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and resisting arrest and booked at the Redondo Beach jail.

He was released on $500 bail.

The officers later hosed down their car and deoderized it with Lysol.
