Harbor Division officers hold community town hall tonight to discuss San Pedro shootings
Los Angeles police officers are having a town hall meeting tonight to discuss it with residents. Here's a flier they are passing around today:

The Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Division is dedicated to enhancing public safety and reducing the fear of crime to protect your future and the future of your children.
During the past two weeks there have been a series of Hate Crime with the most recent incidents resulting in two shootings on August 24, 2009. Please join us at a community meeting to listen to the facts about these recent events and ask questions to your police department and government representatives.

Durante las ultimas dos semanas hubieron una serie de delitos de odio. Especificamente en el dia Agosto 24,2009, hubieron dos tiroteos. Very cool...so many people were upset and making lots of comments on this article about the shootings and what San Pedro has become. Awesome to see they are doing something about it...
I wished I could go tonight, as I would have plenty to say. Unfortunately, we have tickets for an event. I am amused about the community watch stuff, especially, in the downtown San Pedro area. The residents are not aware of when it is and the majority of the people who "attend" are not residents.
Why is it that when a latino or a white shoots or kills a black, its a hate crime, but when its the other way around it isn't? I live in south LA and there are a lot of hispanics that fall victim to blacks. They are oppressed in many ways. Blacks rob, shoot and beat up latinos all the time but the crimes are never reported on the news or considered a hate crime. Is it only a hate crime when the victim is black? Are blacks more precious now than any other race that when they are victimized the community and the police department are outraged but do nothing when it involves a latino victim? When has there been a town hall meeting to discuss crimes and descrimination against any other race that wasn't black?
Yep Msol you said it right. Blacks are more precious now than any other race. That's why there was a highly publcized hate crime case of 5 black teenagers who were charged with a hate crime for assaulting and robbing a 28 year old white woman (http://www.portlandtribune.com/news/story.php?story_id=121355387311981300) or why CBS news and other media outlets published the case where Ronald Taylor (also black) killed three white people (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2000/03/01/national/main166708.shtml). In fact, there have been plenty of cases where there have been blacks in the media for commiting hate crimes. You should really do your research before posting comments.
Here's a notion. Maybe the media just doesn't like Mexicans or maybe there are simply more hate crime cases where Racist Mexicans target blacks. Maybe you should just go live in Mexico where Mexicans can be more precious than any other race.
I laugh when I see Mexican flags in the U.S. of A. and hear Mexicans talking about how much Mexican pride they have. If you love Mexico so much, then why aren't you there? How come there are so many border jumpers and anchor babies here in this country depleating our public resources, and poluting our neighborhoods with your corridos, vendedores, filty habbits? Stop crying, give up your Mexican ways and embrace the American ways by assimilating into mainstream American culture.

This has got to stop! No matter what race is shot or what race is doing the shooting, it's wrong!!
