Police officer, dog injured in crash in Hawthorne
A Hawthorne police officer and her dog were injured last night when they collided with a sport utility vehicle.
The crash occurred about 10:15 p.m. on El Segundo Boulevard at Yukon Avenue, Hawthorne police Lt. Mike Ishii said.
The officer was driving east on El Segundo Blvd to assist another officer at a routine traffic stop when a 2001 Toyota SUV going the opposite direction made a left turn in front of the officer.
"The two vehicles collided and the impact caused the officer's patrol car to ram a large power pole," Ishii said.
Each vehicle sustained major damage.
The officer and the SUV's driver, who was unlicensed, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The police dog suffered several cuts and possible internal injuries and was taken to a local emergency veterinary clinic for treatment.
The Gardena Police Department is investigating the crash for Hawthorne police.

"A Hawthorne police officer and her dog were injured last night when they collided with a sport utility vehicle."
Did "they" collide with the SUV, or did the vehicle they were riding in collide with the SUV?
In one case, they are on foot, in the other case they are driving.
Whatever, Trudger . . .
Here's hoping the officer and her dog are doing well.
