UPDATE: Hawthorne killing
A retired U.S. Marine allegedly stabbed and killed another man who confronted him on a Hawthorne street, police said today.
Michael Carter, 36, of Inglewood was standing with a female companion outside a residence in the 12500 block of Eucalyptus Avenue about 3:30 p.m. Friday when another man approached them, Hawthorne police Lt. Mike Ishii said.
Investigators believe the man was confronting Carter and the woman over relationship issues. When Carter and the woman tried to leave the residence, the two men got into an argument. Carter allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the other man.
Police arrived to find the wounded man lying in the street. Carter identified himself as the person who stabbed him and was arrested, Ishii said.
The wounded man died later at a hospital. His name was not immediately released.
Hawthorne police detectives are investigating the death. Anyone with information about what occurred is asked to contact investigators at 310-349-2700.
Shortly after the killing, police said Carter was an active duty Marine. He is retired.

I am not positive, but I think unless you served 25 years in the armed forces you are not considered retired but rather formerly enlisted, but don't quote me on this.
Dunno. The last time I called someone a "former" Marine, I got a slew of calls telling me Marines are Marines forever. I can agree with that. I was told the correct term is "retired."
One day I hope to be "former" and "retired" at the same time.
There's much more to this story than was reported. Hopefully, everything will come out at the trial.
How long was the knife?
Will there be an additional update on the Hawthorne Killing? Who was killed? What charges are being filed against Michael Carter? Is Michael Carter in custody or out on bail?

It is unfortunate what has happened. 1 man dead and one in jail! Let all the facts be heard and not judge on a partial report from the media. I wish good luck to all the families and hope they accept peace in their hearts. I'm sure the gentleman that has passed was a good person as we know Mike. Prayers to all!
Who is the lady involved with both men? Thats the real question... maybe she's the blame, she could have possibly set Brandon up. Some women play games that back-fire. Now there are two families hurting. We love you Brandon.
Wow! I have known Mike for awhile and he is big guy who is a body builder and is into martial arts. He was a very out going person with a kind word and snappy comeback to fellow coworkers. He was very hard working and a go to guy. He has a small child as well. For him to whip out a knife in a fight means he felt really threatened and I can only imagine that the other guy must have been huge?! I hope that everything turns out but I suspect that I won't be seeing Mike at work anymore :S.
Who is Mike? And where did he work?
Its such a waste to see Brandon who I've known since he was a baby who was a very quiet man of such few words, and I only remember him in his pre teen years but to lose his life violently at such a young age over a woman who won't have either one of them. I like to know how old was this girl/woman to have Brandon just turned 20 as her ex and the new boyfriend the killer who's 36 who just wasted his life. Brandon was a very very good looking kid with eyes that I know mesmorize the ladies, and he had good hair also who could have had any fine ladie if he wanted to. He was the only child to JoAnne and my heart and prayers goes out to her. Rest in peace Brandon
IT IS A SHAME THAT THE DAILY BREEZE DID NOT VERIFY THE THEIR INFORMATION WITH MORE THAN ONE SOURCE. I GUESS THEY WERE PRESSED FOR TIME. THE STORY IS INACCURATE IN MOST RESPECTS AND MISLEADING. I HOPE THE BREEZE GOES BACK AND CHECK THE INFORMATION FOR ACCURACY.
What a tragedy for the both of them. I know Mike & he's always been such the perfect gentleman with a sincere heart. It's just hard for me to swallow such an awful situation to occur. I don't know the facts on what happened but it seems like this was all over a girl and I'm just guessing that Mike was defending himself in this confrontation. A lesson to be learned is to be slow to anger and don't sweat the small stuff. And insignificant relationships are not worth fighting over, nor dying over walk away & move on.
Well my prayers & condolences go out to those lives effected by this unfortunate circumstance....Mike, his family & friends AND Brandon, his family & friends. God Bless everyone.
