Vandals slash tires on Torrance residents' cars
Vandals slashed the tires on the cars belonging to several residents of a south Torrance street, police and residents said Wednesday.
The vandalism was discovered in the morning when the residents in the 4000 block of 242nd Street got into their cars to go to work.
"This time they slashed our tires," said resident Shahnaz Darianavardian. "Next time they are going to slash us."
The crimes occurred sometime late Tuesday night and into Wednesday on 242nd Street and in the Carioca Apartments parking area.
One resident chased a couple of teenagers away.
Although residents indicated the number of victims was 7 to 16, police said they received five or six crime reports.
Darianavardian said she discovered two of her tires slashed when she tried to leave at 6 a.m. to go to an appointment for a cancer treatment.
She missed the appointment.
Darianavardian purchased the Michelin tires two weeks earlier for $335.
"This is ridiculous," she said.
The resident said the street needs more lights, and blamed the city for not having enough street lamps to deter crime.

"Next time they are going to slash us."
Are you serious. Come off it now. It takes a big leap from being a vandal to being Jack the Ripper. Most vandals are non-confrontational cowards. I really doubt you have anything to worry about other than getting your tires busted and missing an appointment or two. Ha Haa! You guys lay it on thick with the dramatically details. "she tried to leave at 6 a.m. to go to an appointment for a cancer treatment." Big emphasis on the fact that she has cancer.
For the man who chased away two teens, you might as well have wrote. One daringly courageous man risked his life by putting himself in jeopardy to fend for his poor defenseless little town against two dangerously ferocious juvenile delinquents out on a tyrannical night of pillaging the town in hedonistic anarchy.
In a self conflicting battle between trembling fear and a sense of civic duty, the heroic civilian was victorious in warding off the savage thugs.
That would surely increase you readership. Hell, people would be lighting cigarettes to a tale like that.
lol. I love the breeze.
I think this maybe the work of some idiots in the area who have been throwing eggs at cars.
Last week around 9pm my wife and I were on our way home (literally in front of our apartment complex, which is next door to the Carioca) when a newer Black BMW with tinted windows drove past me and threw an egg at my newly painted car (which chipped my paint to the primer). The kids inside laughed as it happened. I chased after them, but was unable to get their license plate. I looked at some of the parked cars after, and they were all egged. The cops need to find these kids as they caused so much damage.
So keep your eyes peeled for a newer BLACK 4 DOOR BMW with TINTED WINDOWS ALL THE WAY AROUND.
She's missing her valve cap so did they actually slash the tires or let the air out through the valve?
