Police officers stepped up security around area South Bay synagogues today following a shooting at a temple in the San Fernando Valley.

Redondo Beach police Sgt. Phil Keenan said he immediately dispatched officers to three Jewish institutions in the city until the motive in North Hollywood is known.

Sheriff's deputies are frequently checking the area around Congregation Ner Tamid in Rancho Palos Verdes and Chabad in Lomita, sheriff's Lt. Denise Alcaraz said.

In Manhattan Beach, officers did not increase checks, but regularly include Congregation Tikvah Jacob and other religious institutions in their patrols, police said.

Los Angeles police stepped up security at synagogues throughout its jurisdiction, which includes San Pedro, San Pedro, following the shooting.

A gunman shot two men arriving for a morning prayer service this morning at a North Hollywood synagogue.

Sorry for the two men who were shot but to rush police protection to synagogues over an hour away in traffic is simply retarded.

at least Manhattan Beach appears to have some common sense.
