Man who stumbled under bus in Torrance identified; Has history of public intoxication

Hi im a family friend of Leonard Moreno and the fact that his past is being brought up in this story at all is sick. Plain and simple the poor man got hit by a bus i believe a little sympathy and class should be brought into the story for his family and loved ones sake. That's to you Larry Altman You make me sick....

When did writing relevant background information become irrelevant in journalism?

After the autopsy would have been time to mention your attempt at tabloid journalism if he was legally intoxicated and irrelevant if not. You made most people who don't watch TMZ wince a bit today.

As crass as it seems to the family members, mentioning the alcohol is relevant. Just because he drank heavily (if he did). doesn't make him a bad person. And it doesn't make it any less tragic.

People reading the story are going to wonder if he was in control of his faculties. Because drinking impairs motor skills it could have played a role, therefore making it relevant to the story.

My condolences to the family.

Its a sad story but yet again its larry altmans job to write so if people feel bothered or offended they shouldnt see this website. I personally think this website is great and gives many info from the bay....

If you are angry at someone for simply stating the facts (doing his job), then you are just wasting a lot of your time and energy. Whether he was drinking or not, that still doesn't change the fact that he is gone and he will obviously be missed. There are a lot of people who don't drink a drop but live their lives in such a way that if they were to die tomorrow few would notice or care. God bless Mr Moreno's friends and family.

Larry Altman always likes to put it all out there, he did the same thing to my family, after reading a story he wrote, i called him directly and told if you are going to write anything get the facts straight and had him come and meet me and my family to get the story straight and even after that he still threw a dig in the story, whatever. I drove right by the accident after it happen, made my stomach turn, all i can do was pray and to give the person's family strength in this time of need....God bless the Moreno family.

If you were stuck in traffic Thursday evening at the intersection of Crenshaw and Torrance Blvds., and was wondering why that bus was sitting there behind the police blockade, you'd appreciate knowing that it was due to a publicly intoxicated (and irresponsible) individual who lost his balance, fell underneath the front of the bus, and subsequently lost his life when the bus ran him over.

My condolences to the family, but that's no excuse for the lack of civility toward our hard-working reporters, simply because the deceased couldn't take better care of himself.

I have a friend who drives a bus and like he said it was the bus drivers fault for not looking in his mirrors to make sure it was cleared before he took off. The Torrance transit bus drivers do not know how to drive and always almost hitting people by cutting them off.

And for you Larry Attman. What does it matter if he has a past. A past is a past and we all have skeltons in our closet. How would you feel if your family member died in a tragic accident and then the paper dug up some old stuff about them. Did the police report say he was drunk? and regardless what does him being in jail have to do with a bus running him over. I think you are a heartless person. Why don't you go get a real reporting job and stop reporting unnecessary stuff. And for anyone who agrees with what he wrote is just as heartless and must be an unhappy person just like he is.

Even though I have had my own disagreements with how Larry Altman writes his stories, I must compliment him for digging into the facts of Leonard Moreno's character. Anyone that has been arrested SEVEN times in less than 4 months (as reported) and as we learned later to be a self-professed gang banger is NOT a person that shows any type of love for his family, friends or neighbors. Face it Leonard Moreno is a total scum bag. My prayers go out to the driver of the bus.

the bottom line is a man lost his life to someone driving one of the slowest ways of transportation out there,....there is NO way that accident was unavoidable !!!!!

to all those people here complaining about the Writer. The writer dosent know this guy. I did. I met him when he returned to Carson, and knew each time he was arrested. His street name was puppet, and he was a career criminal and gang banger. After returning to the streets in Carson, he struck an elderly woman over the head with a beer bottle, beat up some homeless people, robbed the Shell gas station on Vermont on Carson St. which are the reasons he continued to go back to Jail. If anyone he didnt like tried to stop him, he vowed to call his gangbanger homeboys to find you and kill you. He tried to fight me twice while he was drunk but I have too much of a heart to fight a lunatic drunk who can barely stand straight. He would drink so much at times he literaly could not arch his back straight up while he walked. This is probably why he didnt see the pole he walked into. You guys still want to say nice things about this guy?

The fact that Moreno's family and friends can defend him like this without acknowledging the naked truth is probably a big reason he ended up living (and dying) the way he did.
