November 7, 2009

ROD HOOPS, SHERIFF
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY SHERIFF-CORONER DEPARTMENT
c/o Public Affairs Division
655 East Third Street
San Bernardino, California 92415-0061
Ref. Case FSB904166

Dear Sheriff Hoops,

For the obvious reasons, this is without question the most emotionally difficult letter I have ever written in my life. Ironically the absolute necessity to write this letter only compounds the difficulty. The strength to write this letter comes from the extreme love of and for my daughter Cori Daye Desmond.

Nevertheless, my innate and moral obligation to thank specifically Detectives Trevis Newport, Robert Warrick, Jason Radeleff, John Gaffney and Sgt. Tony De Cecio from San Bernardino Sheriff's Department Homicide Detail responsible for making the arrest of Tony Lopez Perez, the person suspected of murdering my daughter. Their tireless efforts, patience, expertise and professionalism, along with the unexpected personal connection, commitment and compassion that they showed throughout the investigation, tremendously helped me and my family persevere through this traumatic tragedy.

It's not possible to either describe my personal pain suffered from this loss and also impossible to express my eternal gratitude to everyone who in someway loved Cori Daye and helped our family through this ordeal.

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the media for its accurate, constant dedication and equally compassionate coverage of this crime; this was a vital factor in helping solve this crime.

Our family, friends, and everyone who knew Cori Daye, including the people who were strangers but became acquaintances, are the special ones who shared in this tremendous senseless loss. We stood together, grieved together, prayed together and through Cori Daye will always stay together.

In name, spirit and life of my beautiful little girl Cori Daye Desmond, I encourage everyone to live life to its fullest each and everyday. Never let a day go by without expressing your love for your family and loved ones especially your children.

May God bless and protect you and your children.

Sincerely,

Mark Desmond

Now if the detectives could do the same for the countless minority unsolved murders in the southbay that would be peachy!

Mr. Desmond, thank you so much for sharing this letter with us. I never knew Cori Daye in life, but have been living differently now because of her - everything from appreciating every day I have with my loved ones to being more mindful of my personal safety and encouraging my friends to do the same.

I hope that you and your family are doing okay. Time will never heal the pain of losing your beloved daughter, but hopefully it will make that pain easier to bear.

I am really feeling joy in my heart today as I read this letter of thank you, but moreimportant it represents a family being one step closer towards closure. In response to the first comment, when a person's life is taken race, culture, and gender are not factors. Human life is precious and all murder cases should be handled diligently and professionally with care. So please don't make this about a minority group because it's bigger than that! Corey I miss your beautiful smile!

Brian: This is not the place for those type of comments. Those are things that need to be brought to your congressman's attention.

Brian said:

Thats right Kelly...just sweep it under the rug like it didnt happen. Thats exactly what the police does with all these unsolved minority murders.

God Bless you and your family and the spirit of Cori Daye. She is and always will be missed, loved and remembered. I too have started living my life differently, safely.

My thoughts, prayers and love to you, your family and Cori Daye-Lisa

Brian: You are an uneducated loudmouth. People like you are what's wrong with the world. And people like you are also part of the reason "things get swept under the rug" like you say. Nobody wants to hear you rant on this page. That's not what this page is for.

I didnt know Cori Daye persoally but I'm very touched by this story, I constantly watch Forensic files and I'm horrified, I was on the streets for many years and saw many things and survived thru many things, I write poetry, and am mentally and physically disabled now, but have always wanted to speak or get my poetry and book out there not for money just so nobody else does what I did , at any rate, my blessings and best wishes go out to the family and police officers who worked on the case....

Mark that was a beautiful Letter. I know it wasn't all the police though I know a lot of it had to do with your perserverance. Cori Daye Will be missed. Love you. You are in my prayers

Brian:
I do not think this has anything to do with race so please make it so. I do believe that Mark and our family did not just wait until the police found out everything. He do a lot of walking the streets and talking to people to help.

I felt the anguish in your words. Almost profoundly so. I can only imagine how you must feel and the pain you have endured. God be with you and give you the strength to persevere through these times. Keep the faith.

Thank you Mr. Desmond for this letter, I know how difficult it must have been for you to write this. I met Cori on a few occasions at karaoke...what a beautiful smile. I do live my life differently because of her. I no longer walk alone at night, I look at what happened to her and realize how easily it could have been me, I am so sorry for your loss, she has changed my lifestyle in many ways. I pray that justice be served so someday you and your family may have some peace. God Bless, janet B.

im glad they caught this guy, i know everyone from the southbay had their eyes wide open looking for this guy and finally i hope justice can be served and cori can rest in peace.brian i think you should look up internet trolling syndrome and be treated for the issues you currently have, obviously you have a bigger issue here and desecrating a father's thank you to these fine men who helped find his daughters killer is not right and makes you the racist.

I grew up in the South Bay and even though I did not know Cori, I feel personally connected, Mr. Desmond U r a very strong individual and everyone that has been affected by ur loss will think of u on a daily basis and I know I will live life for your daughter.God bless you and your family!

As far as "BRian" goes, hes the type of person that just wants to start issues and get attention. We all that have souls and hearts know our law works to fullest it can. Dont comment about or too him anymore all it does is fuel the fire and give him reason to return to a page he knows he is not welcome.Dont try to ocntinue to argue when we all know how it works and will never end his rants and anger!

God Bless!
