Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.

Rest in peace. My prayers to the family.
when i seen the red and blue lights flying thru our city with no real sure percaussion thru lights besides a quick flash of their search light, my heart dropped!
I had turned left onto Marine from Van Ness, and I seen two cops cars fly by in my rear view... I was like "DAMN!!!! those cops are after somebody." then right in front of me four or 5 more fly thru Crenshaw and up ahead I think at Lemoli, driving with extreme percaussion at this point as i reached Prarie, two cop cars fly thru the intersection with a quick flash of thier search light... I slowly turned right onto Prarie as about six more cop cars fly thru, 2 at a time, as well as the fire truck.
I couldn't relax in my own home, my heart felt for whoevers lives were in danger. I couldnt find out what was going on. I'm new in the area, i tried looking for something on-line to explain what extreme tradegy could have been taking place. I checked news live, news broadcasting live, radio news live, I called in to news stations and couldnt get thru anywhere.
I'm thinking that there was somebody mass murdering at random, or a store with 50-100 people in it is being held up with explosives or somthing out of the ordinary.
I was sad to see that a "suspected man killed for wounding a cop". My prayers go out to the family, may GOD SETTLE YOUR HEART MIND AND SOUL WITH PEACE, their actions are out of your hands, and they will have to live with their choices, when redemption day comes may GODS GRACE BE WITH THEM. Yours days left in this life will reflect on your actions though because KARMA never forgets.
NO DOUBT IF YOUR A COP IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT YOUR GOING TO GET SHOT AT, was it really neccessary to send every police officer in the SOUTH BAY to one location AFTER THE FACT. The man (MAY HE REST IN PEACE) had passed within minutes... Anybody driving thru the streets at 10:30 last night was in extreme danger, because a cop go shot at, WHO LIVED, the armsman who murdered the "SUSPECTED SHOOTER" (????) should have not been so quick to make a fatal decision like taking a life of another without factual reasoning.
I've noticed a lot around here there is always seemly contstant need to overprotect themselves or overinteregate others. I've seen at least 5 instances with 3 or more cop vehicles with a posible 3 to 8 cops interegating, shining lights on a local citizen, or "JUST STANDING AROUND WATHCHING". And whats with their constant little get together at the 711 off 147 and Prarie???
Rest in pieces. That's what you get for shooting at a cop.
Wow...the person who wrote a novel about the bible and how people over react...
Recommend you move back to Kansas... You really can't be that ignorant.
What about my family..what about all those people in the line of fire of that mans gun...realize this son...a bullet fired has no name...
You should thank god that there is a police department
with brave men and women who are willing to risk their life for you and me...
So heck yeah.. The more police the better!
Well maybe some people should analyze what realy happened and their was no need for officers to open fire they were called to calm him down not PUT HIM DOWN. Now what? does any one know their is a SON left with out a dad now JUAN was a good man fun to hang out with, Always giving advise lol he was positive just had many things he was dealing with at the time and even though people tried reaching out for help for him the COPS felt it was their dutie to kill him. Was that necessary. Now the media wants to put out articles of things he did years ago lol ignorant people......
Either way
"Rest in peace and our prayers will be with you .........."
I HOPE THAT WHEN IT'S YOU ...OH WISE ONE... WHO HAS A GUN POINTED AT YOUR HEART OR HEAD... THAT YOU HAVE THAT SAME "FACTUAL REASONING" YOU ASK OF LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL. AND IF IT'S YOUR FRIEND... YOUR FAMILY... YOUR BROTHER ON YOUR CAR RADIO ASKING FOR HELP BECAUSE HE'S JUST BEEN SHOT, I HOPE YOU GET TO HIM AS SLOWLY AND SAFELY AS POSSIBLE. POLICE OFFICERS ARE PEOPLE... THE LIVE AND THEY DIE JUST AS EASILY AS EVERYONE ELSE. THEY HAVE FAMILIES AND FRIENDS, AND THEY LEAVE THOSE PEOPLE BEHIND EVERY DAY, TO KEEP YOUR PEOPLE SAFE. REMEMBER THAT.
THE NEXT TIME YOU NEED TO CALL 9-1-1, MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM NOT TO SPEED ON THEIR WAY TO HELP YOU, AND MAKE SURE THAT ONLY ONE OR TWO DEPUTIES COME, IT'S JUST YOU...NO NEED FOR EXTRA HELP. I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE KEEP AN EYE ON WHAT YOU DO OR WHERE YOU GO TO GET YOUR MORNING COFFEE OR TAKE YOUR BREAK.

Good way to put it Big John.. That is so true.
I feel bad for the family that lost Juan Carlos Aguilar.. but John said it all.
To the guy who wrote the novel. Wow....You need to move back to whatever Deliverance style backwood you came from and learn how to spell. As a law enforcement officer you are taught to shoot center mass, the officer was shot at and returned fire. The person who he killed deserved to die for firing on an officer.
As for 7-11. Policework is 90% boredom and 10% sheer terror. Thank your local police officer when you see him. Who are you going to call when it goes bad--Larry the cable guy?
