We're still getting the details on last night's shooting in Rolling Hills Estates that left a lawyer, who was reportedly shot in the head, in critical condition. We believe the victim is Jeffrey Tidus, a name partner at the downtown Los Angeles firm Baute & Tidus.

Jeff was an honorable attorney and driven litigator who's word could be trusted. Such an untimely and senseless act is difficult to comprehend. My condolences to his family and friends.

The law profession has one of the highest suicide rates of all professions. The stress and fear of failure, or mistake, is indescribable. Over years and years of litigation, this stress builds up in even the toughest of litigators. While I cannot say it was suicide, the fact that the police would not admit whether a gun was found, or not, tells me that there was probably a gun found. In any case, my prayers go out to the family and especially the children for if by his hand or another's, yet the result is the same: a family shorn of a beloved father, a community at a loss by losing a giving member and a profession lessened by the absence of a devoted attorney.
