BREAKING NEWS: Former RUHS student arrested in dead baby case
FROM THE REDONDO BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The Redondo Beach Police Department arrested a former Redondo Beach resident today after identifying her as the person responsible for birthing an infant in a Redondo Beach home over the weekend and then disposing of the infant in a trash can at the residence.
Jessie Lauren Canfield, 24, of Santa Barbara, was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. at her home in Santa Barbara where she currently resides with her sister. Redondo Beach police were called to the scene in the 700 Block of North Irena Ave. at around 9:00 a.m. today, after a trash collector on his regular route, observed the deceased infant inside of the trash container which had been placed curbside for collection. Police arrived at the scene and observed the deceased infant in the trash container.
Investigators working on the case were able to determine that over the weekend a party had taken place at the residence that the trash container belonged to and that Canfield, who was attending the party, was complaining of cramping and other discomfort.
Investigators were able to make contact with Canfield at her Santa Barbara home and verify that she had given birth while at the Redondo Beach home over this past weekend and then disposed of the infant in the trash can. Canfield is a 2004 graduate of Redondo Union High School who now resides in Santa Barbara. She was taken into custody and is being transported to the Redondo Beach jail where she will be held on the charge of murder.

how is it that this woman doesn't know about safe surrender?
I agree Lisa, how could a 24 year old woman not know about that. How could a woman give birth like that and then just throw the baby in the trash can and walk away.
