Walker Williams, superintendent of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, issued this statement today on the attempted kidnapping at Mira Catalina Elementary School.
"The following information was provided to the District by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department concerning an incident at Mira Catalina Elementary School today.
The victim, a Mira Catalina Elementary School student, was exiting the girls bathroom (southeast side of the campus) when a male grabbed her right arm. She immediately pulled away and ran to her classroom. The suspect fled in an unknown direction. The classroom teacher notified the principal who in turn contacted the Lomita Sheriff's Station and put the school into lock down. An extensive search of the surrounding area was completed by Lomita Station personnel.
All students are in the process of being released to their parents.
We will continue to work with the Sheriff's Station in their investigation.
Additional staff will be assigned to Mira Catalina to assist with campus supervision. We will provide additional information when it becomes available."
