barrera.jpgThis is the man police in Anaheim say was shot to death in a struggle  with an off-duty Gardena cop on Sunday. The cop was eating with his 6-year-old daughter at a Del Taco restaurant when the agitated man came in and got into a dispute with the counter help.

The officer stepped in and told him to stop using profanity. The guy then turned on him and began beating him in front of his daughter. The cop eventually pulled his gun and shot the guy dead.

The whole thing is under investigation.

Anaheim police have now identified the man as Charles A. Barrera, 39, of Anaheim. He has a criminal history since 1988 that includes drugs, burglary, robbery and assault.

The officer suffered a broken nose and jaw, and broken ribs in the fight. Gardena police are not identifying him for his and his family's protection.
