We were out today with Torrance police as they conducted a cellphone operation. The story will be up shortly.

Drivers who were talking or texting got tickets.

Just waiting on the total number of tickets issued today.

I'm really not very impressed the way the Torrance PD sits in their cars watching traffic and then shouts "Got One" and hits the gas to chase down a motorist like he's in some kind of NASCAR race.

Their presence would be much more effective by driving up and down that busy street and making sure that cars are obeying the speed limit.

This is awesome... do you have more video footage.

For BeeVee... drivers who talk or text while driving are as dangerous as those who speed. I've seen enough of them to be wary while driving next to them.

TPD could make more money if they sit outside any fast food drive thru exit... just bust those people who are eating and driving. it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

its good to know there isnt much crime going on in torrance and that TPD has plenty of time to cite people on mobiles.

Well I guess it could be worse... like most of the officers we see talking and texting in their cars out in Manhattan Beach, Lawndale, Hawthorne, El Segundo, and even LAX. It's pretty consistent too. Roughly every other officer.

No ticket for them of course, but wouldn't it be fun? ;)

Torrance PD are my heroes for cell phone enforcement. Ride a motorcycle and find how dangerous cell phone users are. I'd like to see them on Crenshaw Blvd. Some speed enforcement in North Torrance would be welcome. Doubling the fines for cell phone use would be great.
