Police ticket 58 drivers who run Torrance no left turn signs
Police ticketed 58 drivers who ignored "no left turn" signs at a Torrance intersection, officer said Friday.
Torrance officers conducted a special enforcement operation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Vista Montana and Newton Street, Torrance police Lt. Jon Megeff said.
"The goal of this operation was to educate the public and gain compliance with the left turn restriction from southbound Vista Montana to eastbound Newton," Megeff said.
"The restriction exists to prohibit drivers from using Newton, a residential street that cannot accommodate high volumes of traffic, as a cut-through from Pacific Coast Highway to Hawthorne Boulevard."
The signs instruct drivers that left turns are prohibited between 4 and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
During the operation, 58 drivers were cited on suspicion of failing to obey the no left turn sign, two drivers were cited for being unlicensed, and two vehicles were impounded.

Good work!
I see this happen all the time on PCH during rush hour.
How many were residents on that street?
As a sports official, I know that high school sports cost the schools money, except football. It generates revenue for the school. The police department could actually also generate revenue if it enforced laws like cell phones usage while driving and those drivers who use the car pool lanes to get on to the freeway when they are single drivers with no passenger. I see both of those blantant acts of violation everyday while I pull over to use my phone, and wait my turn to enter the freeway.
I live on this street and they need to write even more tickets
58 people were issued tickets..
[That is alot of people]
Somehow I feel this was a deceitful way to make more money for the city.
Yes, if you break the Law. you pay.. I AGREE..
but, somehow.. it is hard to believe 58 people saw this "very VISIBLE sign" and just blately ignored the sign (yes 58 people).. and made the left turn illegaly.
This sounds like another typical police camp spot to make money for the city (through tickets) for a certain amount of time (which is illegal). ( yes my old pops retired a officer.. i know the rules).
PLEASE, please comment... i would like to bring this up to the local news crew.
