Mom charged with killing daughter
A San Pedro woman was charged Tuesday with killing her 10-year-old daughter at their home at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, the District Attorney's Office said.
Bong Sook Chavez, 49, who tried to take her own life during the Friday stabbing attack, was hospitalized Tuesday at the County-USC Medical Center jail ward.
It was unclear when she would be physically able to be arraigned on one count of murder.
Police said Chavez allegedly stabbed her daughter, Quesi, about 2:30 a.m. Her husband heard the commotion and found her in the child's bedroom attempting to kill herself.
He disarmed her and called the police.
Quesi died several hours later. Coroner's officials listed the cause of death as "sharp force injury to the neck."
