A Los Angeles motorcycle officer suffered a leg injury Monday in Wilmington when he collided with a sport utility vehicle, police and firefighters said.

The officer was traveling south on Avalon Boulevard about 3:20 p.m. when a 51-year-old woman made a left turn in front of him at E Street, police said.

The officer was unable to stop in time and struck the car. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The woman, described as shaken up, also was taken to a hospital for an examination.
