Female gang member gets 25 years for killing LAX worker
A female Los Angeles gang member was sentenced to a 25-year state prison term Wednesday for the 2008 slaying of a Los Angeles International Airport employee.
Jessica Ortega, 32, must also pay $1,300 in restitution to the victim's family and $7,500 to the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bob Bowers ruled.
Ortega pleaded no contest July 15 to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted gang and gun allegations, prosecutors said.
Ortega shot Samantha Padilla on April 10, 2008 when she was stopped at a traffic light after exiting the northbound Harbor Freeway at Slauson Avenue.
Padilla was on her way home from work.
