Four businesses in El Segundo and one in Manhattan Beach were cited for selling alcohol to minors during a sting operation, police said Monday.

Manhattan Beach and El Segundo police officers and state Alcoholic Beverage Control agents teamed on Thursday to send a minor to attempt to buy alcohol at 26 bars and restaurants.

Twenty-one refused the sale, but employees at five businesses were cited for providing alcoholic beverages to a minor, police said.

They were:

  • El Torito, 600 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach;
  • Purple Orchid, 221 Richmond St., El Segundo;
  • Marmalade CafĂ©, 2014 Park Ave., El Segundo;
  • Double Tree Hotel, 1985 E. Grand Ave., El Segundo;
  • The Office Downtown, 206 E. Grand Ave., El Segundo

A decoy also was sent into 17 businesses that sell alcohol in the cities. None violated the law.

Manhattan Beach currently has 117 bars, restaurants and retail stores that licensed to sell alcohol. El Segundo has 79.
