The El Segundo Police Department is reducing its lobby hours beginning Oct. 1 because of budget cuts and layoffs of two employees who staffed the counter, Police Chief Mitch Tavera announced Monday.

The lobby that was previously open 24 hours a day, seven days a week will now be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It will be closed on Sunday.

Residents can still call 911 in an emergency and use the non-emergency number, 310-524-2200, for service.

A phone and security door will be installed at the front of the police station for emergency assistance.
