A Rancho Palos Verdes woman awakened last week to a man sitting on her bed stroking her hair, deputies said Wednesday.
The woman ran from the man and was unhurt in what deputies listed as an attempted rape, authorities said.
The man entered the home on Warnick Road through an open rear sliding door while the woman was sleeping at 2 a.m. Sept. 8, sheriff's Sgt. Steve Eschagary said.
"She woke up and he was sitting on her bed stroking her hair," Eschagary said.
After she ran, the man walked out of the house and disappeared.
The victim did not know him.
