Three South Bay residents drowned when when their small plane crashed into the Newport Beach back bay, the Orange County Coroner's Office said today.

Pilot Chuck Chambers, a 58-year-old real estate agent from Torrance, Russ Urban, a 63-year-old retired schoolteacher from Rancho Palos Verdes, and Sean Kelly, 44, of Hermosa Beach died in the Sunday evening crash.

They were returning to Torrance from a surfing trip to Mexico when Chambers' Beechcraft Musketeer developed a fuel problem and crash landed in the water. The plane flipped over and came to rest upside down.

Autopsies determined each man suffered the same fate.
