Police on Monday released photographs of the so-called Chimney Sweep Bandit, responsible for holding up a Bank of America branch in Torrance.

The man, wearing a beanie and dark clothes, held up the bank in the 21700 block of Hawthorne Boulevard at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 4, Torrance police Sgt. Jeremiah Hart said.

The robber, police said, handed a note to a teller stating that he had a gun. The bank teller handed over money to the robber, who put it inside a brown paper bag.

He then ran.

The man was described as white, 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet 1 inches tall, 180 pounds. He had a scraggly beard, wore a light-colored beanie with a small bill, a long-sleeve black shirt and blue jeans.

He wore black sunglasses and had a Band-aid on his nose and right cheek.

The man appears to match the description of the Chimney Sweep Bandit, who has committed robberies in Ventura and Orange counties.

Anyone with information should call Torrance police at 310-328-3456.
