Jeremy perez.jpgI spent a couple hours out the memorial growing at the Albertsons supermarket on Artesia Boulevard in Redondo Beach. There's a 20-foot-long display of flowers, candles, stuffed animals, candles and photographs growing out there where 7-year-old Jeremy Perez died. Jeremy was hit by an Albertsons truck on Friday.

My updated story will appear a little later on dailybreeze.com.

But for now you can begin donating money if you like to help Jeremy's family pay for his funeral.

Donations to the Jeremy Perez Memorial Fund can be made at any of the 11 Wells Fargo Bank branches in the South Bay in care of bank vice president Jamal B. Shofani and account number 5180865940.

Donations made online should be made in Shofani's name with the account number.

*UPDATE: Family members have set a public memorial service on the beach at 20th 28th Street and The Strand in Manhattan Beach for 3 p.m. Saturday

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
