Retired Redondo Beach police dog 'Andy' dies
Andy was put to sleep Wednesday because of cancer, police said.
Andy, who was 9-years-old, served the department from January 2004 to December 2008 with his handler, Officer Rich Sigler.
He retired alongside Sigler and moved in with him.
Andy was a patrol canine responsible for apprehending numerous criminal suspects throughout the South Bay.
He also made appearances at community functions.

Redondo Beach, CA — As you celebrate the holiday season enjoying traditions, food, family and fun, be reminded that the Redondo Beach Police Department, together with police, sheriff, CHP and the Avoid the 100 DUI Taskforce, will be working during the holiday season from December 16, 2011, to January 2, 2012, to arrest anyone caught driving drunk behind the wheel. The Redondo Beach Police Department will conduct a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on December 30, 2011 at approximately 7 p.m., as part of Redondo Beach PD’s commitment to the traffic safety campaign.
