Police cited 11 people in a "shoulder tap" sting operation to nab adults willing to purchase alcohol for minors in Manhattan Beach and El Segundo, police said Tuesday.

Officers used minors to solicit adults outside liquor stores to buy alcohol for them during the operation Monday. Of 91 adults asked, eight made the purchase in Manhattan Beach. Three did so in El Segundo, Manhattan Beach police Sgt. Chris Vargas said.

Each person was cited for furnishing alcohol to minors.

In each case, the decoy told the adult his or her true age.

The Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and El Segundo police departments, along with the state Alcoholic Beverage Control agencies, are conducting the operations to prevent alcohol sales to people under age 21.
