Torrance Superior Court Judge Eric Taylor sentenced Brian Foucher, 32, to 20 years and eight months, plus four life terms, this morning for kidnapping and raping one woman - and trying to do the same to three others - in the South Bay in 2002.
Foucher's history of mental illness, which did not come into play during his jury trial, was the focus of today's hearing.
We'll have a full story up later.

Back in 2007, when Phillip Michael Dorsett went on trial for the June 16, 2005, shooting death of Jesse Fujino, 18, in Inglewood, it struck us as a strange case of a seemingly rich kid from The Hill who found a life of crime down below. I don't remember but the specifics of why, but I do remember there being a lot of fall-out from Dorsett's family after we ran an article about his conviction (after the jump).
Last month, the 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld Dorsett's second-degree murder conviction, but said the prosecutor did not present enough evidence to support the allegation he committed the murder for the benefit of a criminal street gang. The appellate court said he could not be re-tried on the allegations because doing so would be double-jeopardy. The end result, though, doesn't change things much as far as Dorsett's 40 years to life in prison sentence goes.

From the District Attorney's Office:
LOS ANGELES - An former Inglewood police officer who, while off-duty, allegedly pointed a firearm at a motorist in the presence of his children was charged with several crimes today.
Deputy District Attorney Amy Pellman Pentz of the Justice System Integrity Division said Michael Lewis Robinson, 44, surrendered today to the California Highway Patrol.
Robinson is due to be arraigned on May 15 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
He is charged in case No. BA355864 with one count of brandishing at a person in a motor vehicle, two counts of child abuse and a misdemeanor count of resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.
The charges stem from an incident on March 31, 2008, during which Robinson allegedly flashed a firearm in a threatening manner at another motorist on the 405 freeway. The defendant's two children, ages 6 and 11, were in the vehicle at the time, prosecutors said.
Robinson's bail is set at $100,000. If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum term of nine years in state prison.
LaGreek made 52 DUI arrests in 2008, more than any other officer on the
force, Inglewood police Lt. Mike McBride said.
LaGreek is a member of the South Bay's DUI task force, known as "Avoid the 100." He is an expert in DUI investigations and regularly conducts DUI training for other officers.
Inglewood made 235 DUI arrests in 2008, a 64 percent increase from the year before.
From City News Service:
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Two months after Costco was ordered to pay $420,000 to an employee who was retaliated against for complaining of mistreatment because he is gay and HIV-positive, the warehouse store was ordered today to pay an even larger amount in attorneys' fees.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis directed Costco to pay lawyer Leo J. Terrell $471,240, plus another $39,540 in costs. Terrell was entitled to attorneys' fees because the case involved discrimination.
On Dec. 3, a jury found that Terrell's client, Juan I. Valera, endured a hostile work environment at the Inglewood warehouse. The jury, which did not include any gay members, rejected his claims of sexual orientation discrimination, that Costco failed to provide accommodations for his needs and that the company acted with malice.
"I'm happy with getting all my fees,'' Terrell said outside court. Terrell said he is still trying to get Valera, who remains on leave from Costco, reinstated by the company to his old position as photo manager and may have to file another lawsuit on his behalf to do so.
"He's unemployed and has no health insurance, and that's a death sentence for someone who has HIV,'' Terrell said.
From City News Service today:
INGLEWOOD (CNS) - A Los Angeles man was shot to death today in Inglewood, authorities said.
Alaleem Hassan Shabazz, 57, died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of East Stepney Street, said Craig Harvey of the coroner's office.
According to the preliminary report, Shabazz was in a vehicle when he was shot "multiple" times, Harvey said.
There were no immediate reports of arrests.
Just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, two men held up the 52 Market in the 12000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard in West LA. No one saw their getaway car. So, whoosh, they got away.
About 15 minutes later, some guys held up Tochma Market at 74th and Main streets in Los Angeles.
In that one, they were seen leaving in a red vehicle. I guess the cops figured out who the car belonged to and the fact he was on parole with orders to wear a global positioning device to monitor his whereabouts.
It didn't take long for officers to follow the electronic signal to a motel in the 11700 block of Aviation Boulevard near LAX. Yeah, they found the dude.
Police took Chelminski Walker, 29, of Inglewood to jail, found the handgun and recovered his red Chevrolet Monte Carlo. (Chelminski?)
And, they linked him to the earlier holdup.
He's held on robbery without bail.
A man who tried to crash into an off-duty sheriff's deputy on the Century Freeway has pleaded no contest to an assault with a deadly weapon charge, prosecutors said Friday. Jose Antonio Ruiz, 20, changed his plea on Wednesday and was sentenced to five years probation and 81 days in jail, which is equivalent to the time he's spent in custody, according to Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office.
As part of his plea deal, a count of assault on a peace officer was dismissed. Ruiz must also perform 100 hours of community service, Gibbons said.
The Inglewood man pulled in front of the deputy on the eastbound 105 freeway, then hit the brakes, early on April 1. The deputy believed he hit the car and stopped at the shoulder. Ruiz also stopped and attacked the deputy with a knife, according to sheriff's investigators. He was shot by the deputy in the upper body.
