We're still getting the details on last night's shooting in Rolling Hills Estates that left a lawyer, who was reportedly shot in the head, in critical condition. We believe the victim is Jeffrey Tidus, a name partner at the downtown Los Angeles firm Baute & Tidus.
All that hoopla earlier today was about a stolen car taken from the area. Deputies pulled the vehicle over and there are two suspects in custody.
We're getting the details in a bit, but it looks like there was some police activity where Rolling Hills Road and Portugese Bend connect. A caller reported that Sheriff's Deputies were out en masse, with their guns drawn. No one from the department could talk to verify details, except to say that whatever it was - no one got hurt, someone is in custody and it's over.
We'll keep you posted.
Former Peninsula High School coach Barry Sacks, 49, pleaded not guilty today to nine counts of child molestation at his arraignment at the Torrance courthouse. Judge Hector Guzman scheduled the next hearing for Sept. 17. Sacks remains free on $150,000 bail. He is accused of inappropriately touching nine girls ages 15 and 16 years old.
That's his attorney, Larry Donoghue on the right. The whole proceeding -- not including a hearing on whether we could take a photo -- lasted about a minute.

Story coming soon.

If you see this guy, call 911 immediately. He's Wynford Eugene Murray,
a convicted child molester out of New York who has been seen in Redondo
Beach. He's unregistered and get this -- he gets off on reading stories
about having sex with infants. He has been in libraries, including in
Redondo Beach, downloading that sort of literature.Anyway, instead of calling up the business number of your local police station, Redondo Beach police want you to call 911. He is a transient and might be using a bike and living around the beach.
I'll have a full story coming up soon.
Here's a preview of photos that will appear in tomorrow's paper from today's search and arrests of the suspected mail robbers:

Ace photographer Brad Graverson spent the afternoon at the search in Rancho Palos Verdes and took these shots. A full story will appear later on dailybreeze.com and in the Wednesday print edition. As I reported earlier, police arrested two of the three men suspected of robbing a mail carrier in Manhattan Beach. Several hundred letters were recovered. The police dogs got both of them.

The L.A. Times on Sunday had this article about a Rolling Hills Estates family where the adult son is busted again and again by police for various misdeeds. When he directs his thievery at his parents' home, the dad decides to prosecute, hoping his son will get the help he needs under the court's jurisdiction. The son, though, gets beaten to a pulp by fellow inmates while awaiting his case to play out. I'd guess dad's feeling a wee bit guilty ... but really, what would any of us have done?
