Policing a group of people who call themselves the Rebel Alliance is no easy task. So when it came to security at the Star Wars Celebration IV at the Los Angeles Convention Center, organizers didn't mess around.

They enlisted the 501st Legion.

In addition to off-duty cops, professional security guards and staffers, the elite Stormtrooper unit known as "Vader's Fist" was on hand to ensure the Jedi didn't get excessively rowdy. They made clear in the show notes that weapons in the convention were verboten, with the handy exception of:

"Futuristic Replicas of Sci-Fi or fantasy weapons may be exempt, providing they are immediately and obviously recognizable as such. These can include the blasters carried by costumed stormtroopers."

Guillermo Besada, known in his local garrison in Murcia, Spain as TK 3503, left his blaster at home, lest he run afoul of airport security. With a partner, he checked IDs outside the door Thursday afternoon and tried to keep an eye out for lawbreakers using The Force.

"We're here to control people," he said. "We've got orders here -- we're basically the cops."
