Chicago Segway cop nabs suspect in butt shooting

Chicago Police Department Officer Thaddeus Martyka was on the hunt for expired meters and double parkers when a bullet zinged through the air. He slammed his Segway into gear and engaged. He doggedly pursued the man, hitting top end at 12.5 mph. The chase ended with the suspect, wanted for shooting a man in the buttocks, in cuffs and a .25-caliber pistol logged as evidence. The Chicago Tribune has the story, with a link from Police One.

I know LAPD's looked at using the scooters in the past, so perhaps the wheels-vs-feet pursuit will provide 'em with a little insight about their usefulness.
