New SWAT headquarters named after Simmons

| | Comments (0)

The LAPD's new SWAT headquarters is going to be named after Officer Randy Simmons, the department's first SWAT officer to die in the line of duty.
The Metropolitan Division and SWAT are slated to move into the old Rampart Division station, located at 2710 W. Temple St., within the next six months and the civilian police commission unanimously approved the renaming. It still must go before the city council, but is not expected to be met with opposition.
Simmons, 51, was killed Feb. 7 during a 10 hour standoff with a deranged young man who killed his father and two brothers inside a Winnetka home before he was shot by police.
His funeral was attended by 10,000 people, broadcast live on local television and attracted mourners from around the country.
