Bring out the Dogs, Bring out the Ponies!

The Pasadena Playhouse is making a to-do over the first day of sales for "Stormy Weather," the musical Lena Horne biography featuring Leslie Uggams.

On Nov. 1, the day tix go on sale for the engagement (which opens Jan. 30), they'll have jazz in the PP courtyard, food and goodie bags for the first 75 people. Uggams, director Michael Cohen, writer Sharleen Cooper Cohen and Artistic Director Sheldon Epps will all take part in the presentation, which begins at 1 p.m.

It makes a certain amount of sense to tease your upcoming big show, although the "Stormy Weather" troops will be hard pressed to duplicate the dog and pony show Disney Theatricals rolled out this week in anticipation of the musical "Mary Poppins"... which opens a YEAR from now.

I attended that and will blog you more once I go through my notes and tapes.

But the "Stormy Weather" 'do is free and not by invitation only. 39 S El Molino Ave., in Pasadena. Courtyard celebration begins at 11.

About The City
in Curtains

As the theater critic of the Los Angeles Daily News, Evan Henerson goes to a lot of plays in a city where most people go to the movies. For the sake of the people who put on these plays — and, yes, for the sake of his job — he thinks you should do the same.
