Ken Jeffries talks with Daily News City Hall reporter Rick Orlov about the revised 6.7 billion dollar budget on its way to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's desk. It calls for the layoffs of up to 1,761 city workers, furloughs and reductions in popular city programs.
Ken Jeffries talks with Mindy Finkelstein (full disclosure: his niece) as Mindy prepares to travel from her home base of San Francisco to Washington, D.C., to meet President Obama this Thursday as part of Jewish Heritage Month.
Mindy was a camp counselor in 1999 when she was injured by an avowed white supremacist who shot up the North Valley Jewish Community Center in Granada Hills. Buford Furrow, who also killed Filipino-American postal worker Joseph Ileto in Chatsworth that same day--is serving a life term without parole.
Ken Jeffries talks with CHP Officer Miguel Luevano, who says the campaign has begun in earnest to make Californians aware of the crackdown on motorists who fail to use seatbelts. The fines and fees have increased to 142 dollars for for first-time adult seat belt violators...while the penalty for having an unbelted child under 16 is 445 dollars.
Ken Jeffries talks with Kay Holmen...Past President of the California and San Fernando Valley chapters of the Million Mom March (now affiliated with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence). He also chats with Joshua Stepakoff...one of the youngsters (at the time) who was shot during the North Valley Jewish Community Center attack in 1999...an event which prompted the formation of the March. (Full disclosure: Ken's niece--Mindy Finkelstein--was a camp counselor who was also inured in the attack).
Ken Jeffries talks with Daily News City Hall reporter Rick Orlov, who says Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is pleased with the event, in which Angelenos turned in more than 25-hundred handguns, rifles and assault weapons---it's 55 percent more than last year's take. In exchange, they get gift cards donated by Ralphs, Target and other retailers.
Ken Jeffries talks with the 'movers and shakers' behind Pierce College's new radio station--which you can get by going to kpcradio.com. Their goal is to broadcast the unique stories of the people who live in the San Fernando Valley.
Ken Jeffries talks with Daily News City Hall reporter Rick Orlov about a new audit that shows that LA City Hall officials had trouble tracking down around a million dollars worth of city-owned equipment. The departments being audited include Parks and Rec, Bureau of Sanitation, and the Information Technology Agency.
