Scenarios

I'm all for it, but the Gold Line light-rail extension from Pasadena to Ontario, a topic of today's column, is very far from a sure thing. Hundreds of millions of dollars, maybe even billions of dollars, are needed, L.A. officials have other priorities and there's no identified funding source.

Still, in the best-case scenario, the leg to Azusa would open in 2013 and the portion to Montclair in 2016.

The worst-case scenario? An asteroid would strike the Earth and wipe out life as we know it. Oh, and anyone still living would be a vampire.

I have my fingers crossed for the best-case scenario.

At least the asteroid scenario would solve our redevelopment problems. I just hope that the vampires aren't all preservationists.

Like the new look of the blog. Are you sure you couldn't get your name any bigger? :-)

The opening of the Gold Line from Pasadena to Montclair is already eight years further down the road than first planned. The Coalition needs to get behind the logistics of that plan and put the dreams of getting it to the Ont. Airport on hold. Taking it to the airport would take too many more millions and disrupt too many more people in comparison with how many it would serve.

For a nice day trip to Pasadena now, one can take the Metrolink to Union Station, and, with the Metrolink ticket, transfer to the Gold Line.

[I've never done the roundabout trip to Pasadena because it takes 30 minutes to drive to Pasadena from Claremont and at least 90 minutes to get there by train. But when I have a day to kill I'd like to try it just to see what can be seen from the Gold Line. -- DA]
