Lost: one idea
Believe me, generating ideas for this column is no problem. Besides all the ideas cluttering my desk, my files and my brain, I have a dry-erase board on my desk that has, let me count, 34 column ideas, some of which have been there a long while.
Why? Newsier material keeps coming up and it's not often I'm able to tackle one of these perennials. And it seems as though every time I get to one, and wipe it off the board triumphantly, I add another one or two.
It occurred to me the other day that I can explain every word or phrase on this board -- except one.
"Towne house"? This apparently refers to a house I once saw on Towne Avenue in Pomona, but I have no recollection of what it means.
I suppose I should erase it, but, darnit, something made me write "Towne house" on there. Maybe the meaning will come to me.
Any, um, ideas? *
UPDATE: I remembered what "Towne house" means! And of the four comments so far (as of 11 a.m. Thursday), none are correct -- although they're all good guesses. Keep guessing, if you like -- but expand your thoughts to the entirety of Towne Avenue, not just the Pomona part.

I will wager that the "Towne House" of which you made note is the old Honneker (sp?) home on north Towne, at the NW corner of Bonita (just north of the Vineyard Church facility). From the street, the property is heavily wooded, and if you are lucky as you pass by the driveway you can catch a glimpse of the home, set far back on the property.
Pomona Heritage once considered accepting the home as a gift from the family, for use as its offices and for larger outdoor functions.
If this is not correct, maybe you were thinking of the mysterious Tudor mansion near the intersection of Towne and San Antonio.
Either one of these homes is worthy of a write-up.
Well, it did give you a subject for a blog post, David.

Perhaps it refers to the Honaker house where Towne and San Antonio come together on the east side of the street. It sits back from the street and is only visible if you're looking for it. As it happens, Pomona Heritage will be featuring that home on their Old Home Tour on October 19.
Regarding "Towne House":
How about the old house where Towne and San Antonio intersect across from Pomona High?

Well there's a rundown apartment complex on Towne called "Towne House." It's usually good for a chuckle as I pass by, but I don't know about a column.

DA: I am thinking your forgotten columm would be of the two houses they moved from the Claremont Colleges to an empty lot on Towne Ave that are now on stilts just south of 210 fwy.
This was a story they had in the Courier a while back. So what do I win?
