Kind of fun, but not really fun

Reader Gene Harvey phoned to tell me KFI-AM quoted from my Top 10 strange news of 2008 column, attributing the countdown simply to the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, yours truly not being a household name. Well, nice of KFI to let me speak for the entire newspaper, I guess.

Harvey said the station referenced items 10 (the road rage chaplain), 9 (Ontario confusion) and then jumped to No. 1 (Thanksgiving at Condit Elementary).

“Too bad they didn’t mention your name. That would have been kind of fun,” Harvey said.

Yes (sob!), it would have.

Well, at least they are reading your column and quoting it on air. Not too shabby at all. I’m impressed.

I have to admit I was reading your column for quite awhile before I noticed who was writing it. I always read the whole paper daily and have since it was the Progress Bulletin. So, I know I must have been reading your column. I just wasn’t paying attention. It wasn’t until you wrote about some college students playing a drinking game while watching the Pomona City Council meetings on cable that I started looking for your columns. That was one of the funniest things I have ever read. Now, I even know which days of the week you are printed. Some of us just aren’t too good with names.

[Thanks, Mo. Confession is good for the soul. Seriously, undoubtedly a lot of readers aren’t paying close attention. Or any attention. Good to hear you’ve become a regular. — DA]
